Dr. Mohammad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali
The historic environmental announcement of the "Green Saudi Arabia" and "Green Middle East" initiatives embodies the Kingdom's leading role in addressing environmental challenges under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince - may Allah preserve them-, where the two initiatives launched by His Highness, the Crown Prince, drew a map for the Kingdom and the region in protecting the land and nature. Therefore, King Faisal University is grateful that the two initiatives go in line and compatible with its institutional identity aimed at "contributing to achieving food security and environmental sustainability". As King Faisal University seeks to achieve this through its four main functions, it launched a number of projects, initiatives and programs to activate this on the ground, including launching executive programs that contribute to achieving food security and environmental sustainability for the Kingdom. It also worked to improve its environmental practice based on international standards and activate its institutional identity. Hence, King Faisal University signed strategic agreements and partnerships with a number of global entities and world leading universities to contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals at local and global levels, and contribute to achieving the objectives of the two initiatives side by side with all other involved sectors. The university is proud of the support and directives of His Excellency the Minister of Education and His Excellency the Vice-Minister for Universities, Research and Innovation to achieve the aspirations of its institutional identity and strategic plan. King Faisal University is also proud of its success in investing its close and strategic relationship with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, as the university has become part of the national agricultural system at the level of educational, research and providing services . Together with the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), King Faisal University also participated in achieving their common goal and seeking to raise the level of human resources, and to advance the causes of educational, cultural, scientific, environmental and communication development. Based on these grounds, and this effective cooperation, the organization of the Second International Conference on Food Security and Environmental Sustainability has come with the aim of studying the reality of National and Arab food security, its challenges, ways to overcome them, and building future strategies and policies that contribute to its development and achieve environmental sustainability. Since the launch of King Faisal University Vision 2030, it has been directed towards drawing its strategic direction, future vision and lofty mission in line with its directions, especially those related to food security and environmental sustainability, as it senses its role and responsibilities towards the development of the country, science, capacity-building, human resources and global competition based on quality performance, the richness of outstanding outputs and research, growth, and sustainability to achieve the aspirations of our wise leadership and the prosperity of our dear country.
