The University President of King Faisal University, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali: 100 Patents in Food Security and Environmental Sustainability Field
His Excellency the President of King Faisal University, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, stated that the university obtained more than 100 patents in the field of food security and environmental sustainability during the current year 2023 AD. Pointing out that they will be transformed into economic products that contribute to providing solutions to challenges in these areas, as well as raising the operational efficiency of systems supporting food security and environmental sustainability.
This came during his attendance at the sessions of the Second International Conference on Food Security and Environmental Sustainability, held at King University in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Public Authority for Food Security.
The university president stressed that the university focuses institutionally on contributing to food security and environmental sustainability, and these areas represent great importance not only at the national and regional levels, but also at the global level.
His Excellency said, “In recent years, we have witnessed global challenges in this field, which have cast their shadows on all global systems, and the presence of such scientific gatherings would tackle the challenges and provide solutions to them, in addition to enhancing opportunities for cooperation
He added “King Faisal University is keen to mobilize its human, scientific and technical expertise in this field and harness it to serve the university at the highest quantitative and qualitative research level, in addition to harnessing patents, which exceeded 100 patents this year, to transform them into economic products that contribute to providing solutions. At the same time, they contributes to raising the operational efficiency of many systems that address food security and environmental sustainability.”
He continued “This is the second edition of this conference, and the university will host this conference every two years and meeting with researchers, internally and externally, and directors of research centers, and at the same time raising and discussing latest updates, whether at the level of challenges or at the level of opportunities that can be harnessed to serve sustainability.”
His Excellency also stressed the importance of training human cadres to deal with such challenges, adding “There is no doubt that the Kingdom’s initiatives, the goals of the vision, and the initiatives launched by the Kingdom confirm the importance of the presence of human cadres who seek to make them a tangible reality achieved through the efforts made in the field of development that we are witnessing in “Our dear homeland.”
His Excellency the President of the University concluded his speech by saying: “With regard to waste and loss, they are two different terms that represent great importance in the field of food security and environmental sustainability, and the university has made great efforts through the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, which pour their efforts into this issue from a cognitive, educational and educational perspective.” Benefiting from recycling, as well as creating solutions that can alleviate this problem, as numbers indicate that approximately 33% of food waste occurs in many societies around the world, and that the Kingdom and the Arab countries are part of this matter, and regulations or legislation must be put in place. “And changing societal culture, whether at the individual or community level, in addition to finding solutions to make optimal use of food sources.”
