The Poem "No Burden upon My Misgiving" by Ibn Zaidoun: A Pragmatic View
(Hamda behind Anzi)Abstract
Textual linguistics transcended the limits of sentence in the study of language to text analysis. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the techniques of textual cohesion and coherence in poetry, using Ibn Zaidoun's poem entitled "No Burden upon My Misgiving" for analysis and discussion.
This study seeks to highlight the most important relations of both the textual cohesion and coherence in the poem, which is considered as one of the best Arabic poetry in Andalusia; a poem that has never textually been studied.
This study is an attempt to benefit from the latest achievements of contemporary linguistics in the field of text analysis, which is pragmatics. Indeed, the study examines the effect of the context in the structure of the discourse and aims at addressing the sender within the communicative domain directed to the addressee. Thus, the study was organized in two sections: structural cohesion and semantic coherence.
The study concluded that the semantic coherence is one of the main foundations of the construction of the text, and that it represents the relationship between the realm of the text and the real world around it as it contains pragmatic relations. The study proved that Ibn Zaidoun's poem represented textual standards where all parts seemed to have come together; the poem has met the requirements of the structural cohesion and the semantic coherence and then the goal of the poem intended by the poet has been achieved.
Key Words: Context analysis, lexican cohesion.
