Factorial Structure of Emotional Intelligence of Active Educational School Leaders
(Ibrahim bin Salem Abbati)Abstract
One of the major factors participating in the success of educational institutions is the availability of certain competencies in the school director as an educational leader. The aim of this study was to detect the factorial structure of emotional intelligence of active educational leaders according to the educational stage (primary, middle, or secondary).
To achieve this goal, descriptive analytical approach was adopted. A planned sample of (188) managers were selected from the educational leaders (mangers or vice managers) from different educational stages (primary, middle, or secondary) of Al-Ahsa governorate's general schools. The study tools were a scale for emotional intelligence and a scale for active educational leaders (prepared by the investigators). The scales were applied to the sample after testing for stability and validity.
The results revealed that the factorial structure of intellectual intelligence varied for the leaders according to the educational stage. The structural order of the primary stage was reaction self-management, managerial arrangements, educational consultations, decision-making, and managerial follow-up, respectively. For the middle stage leaders, the order was supervision and follow-up, managerial partnership, reaction control, coordination and follow-up, development and execution, partnership and planning, and managerial responsibility, respectively. As for the secondary stage leaders, the order was managerial cooperation, human relationships, supervision and follow-up, coordination follow-up, partnership and self-control, participation in solving problems, managerial responsibility and decision-making, respectively.
The study recommended that approved psychological and personal scales should be used when selecting educational leaders. It also recommends training leaders to acquire emotional skills related to the managerial and educational duties.
