Toward an Ideal E-Education Environment in King Faisal University: The Six Dimensions

Abstract

The study aims to determine the level of students satisfaction about the e-education environment in KFU, and the factors that can idealize the e-education environment. The study sample was comprised of 223 students, representing 1.7 % of the study population. The study revealed that students satisfaction regarding e- education environment was high. The factors that could be used to idealize the e- education environment were categorized into six categories: i.e., student, instructor, technology, curriculum, teaching activities, and institutional support. The results indicated that students agreed that all these factors were important. It also indicated that the order of importance was the instructor, then curriculum, student, teaching activities, technology, and finally institutional support in descending order. The results indicated the presence of significant differences in the level of students satisfaction about the e- education environment and in the relative importance of the factors that could be used to idealize e- education environment. Such differences depended on students level of computer expertise in favor of the more experienced students. The study discussed these results, and reached some necessary recommendations. The recommendations included the necessity of the coordination between the deanships of information technology, e- education, and higher education development regarding establishing an ideal e- education environment. It also highlighted the importance of technical developing of faculty members to acquire a positive attitude towards e- education environment and to deal effectively with it. Building e-curriculums based on scientific standards is also an essential recommendation addition Technical training of students to be able to deal with the e- education environment. The results also indicated the necessity of maintaining and improving the technical infrastructure for further development. Finally, The crucial need to periodical evaluation of the e- education experience to assure its quality. Key Words: E-learning, Educational environment, Students satisfaction.
