The Role of King Faisal University in Achieving Faculty Members’ Professional Development

Abstract

The research aims at recognizing the role of King Faisal University in achieving faculty members’ professional development in three aspects (teaching, research and community service) and identifying the differences in faculty members’ responses according to research variables (gender, major, years of experience, nationality and rank). The research utilized the descriptive method. In order to achieve the research objectives, a questionnaire has been designed, standardized then applied to (185) faculty members from various colleges constituting 23.8% of the study population . The results of this research indicated that the average of the sample views towards the role of KFU in achieving their professional development was low. The part concerning research came first followed by teaching then community service. The results also indicated the presence of statistically significant differences in faculty members’ responses due to gender (in favor of male members) and rank (in favor of professors), whereas no statistically significant differences was found due to years of experience, nationality and major. The research concluded with some recommendations to activate the university role in achieving faculty members professional development. Key Words: Faculty members, professional development.
