(Nouf S. A. Al-Azmi and Ebtsam A. M. Al-Oudah)

Abstract

Digital citizenship is a part of country’s educational strategy, as it is important to educate learners about their rights and rights of others when communicating virtually. This research aims to shed light on promotion of digital citizenship at secondary level in one of Kuwaiti governorates, investigate its obstacles, propose ways to enhance it. The descriptive survey method was employed, with questionnaire administered to (350) female teachers at secondary level. findings showed teachers strongly agreed with extent to which digital citizenship is promoted at secondary level, particularly regarding encouragement of female students to respect privacy of others on social networking sites to avoid using inappropriate digital content. findings revealed teachers agreed on obstacles hindering promotion of digital citizenship, limited inclusion of digital citizenship topics in curricula, need to promote digital citizenship at secondary level by increasing female students’ awareness of risks associated with digital world and by familiarising them with digital citizenship laws. It revealed statistically differences attributed to specialisation and years of experience variables in relation to reality of promoting digital citizenship at secondary level; however, there were no statistically significant differences, based on specialisation and years of experience, regarding the obstacles to digital citizenship and ways to promote it.
