Professional Development of Faculty Members at the Girls College of Arts in Dammam, Eastern Province، Saudi Arabia through Evaluating the Programs of Planning and Development (Case Study)

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to investigate the professional development of faculty members at the Girls College of Arts in Dammam through evaluating the programs offered by the Planning and Development office since its establishment in 1425 AH. For data collection، the researcher designed a survey consisting of 97 items، distributed to 133 faculty members who were categorized according to gender and field of specialization. The study showed several results which included: the participants were aware of the concern the college administration has towards the training and professional development of faculty members، the percentage of the faculty members wanting to sign up for professional development programs was 98%، the biggest obstacles for members to enroll in such programs were related to the time factor 98% and to the overloaded schedules with teaching hours 86%. Another result showed female members had a stronger desire to sign up for such programs than male members (78% female and 31% male). Therefore, the recommendations for this study included the following: - The professional development programs for faculty members in the college must offer a wide variety of topics and types of activities. - Inviting government and private organizations that are related to professional development is necessary to support such programs. - working on overcoming obstacles that may hinder the implementation of faculty member professional development in the college. - Encouraging the participation of faculty members who have the desire to offer training programs in the college.
