Developing Talent Management: Saudi Schools as a Case Study

(Maha Saleh Alamoud and Rana Eid Saad Alrifai)

Abstract

This study aims at examining the effects of applying talent management approaches by the female principals of public education schools in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the study seeks to present suggestions to improve talent management skills among school principals. The study population consisted of all the female principals of public education schools in Yanbu: 144 female school principals, while the study sample members who participated were 141 female school principals. To achieve the study objectives, the descriptive survey method was used, and a questionnaire was developed as the study tool. The descending order of the questionnaire’s dimensions came as follows: talents’ retention, talents’ training and development, talents’ planning and talents’ performance evaluation. The results of the study indicate that the effects of applying talent management approaches by the female principals conformed with the degree of “Agree”. In addition, the study participants indicated that they ‘strongly agree’ with the developmental proposals of talent management: empowering school principals, increasing the powers entrusted to them to support talent management, establishing partnerships with the institutions offering talent sponsorships to manage the talents of school employees, and providing financial allocations for talent management. The study presents several recommendations including establishing a specialised unit for talent management in education departments to supervise the related committees in schools; setting the standards, foundations and procedures for talent management and making use of global models; and providing modern communication systems necessary for exchanging knowledge and experience between schools in relation to talent management.
