  Compounds for treating tuberculosis and, particularly, to anti-tubercular compounds that are 5-(1H-indol-3-yl)-1,3-substituted-7-thioxo-7,8-dihydropyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione derivatives and their use as anti-tubercular agents. Each compound may have the formula I: ##STR00001## or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or tautomer thereof, wherein: R.sup.1 is H or CH.sub.3; R.sup.2 is H or CH.sub.3; and X is O or S.
