Abstract

Going on a pilgrimage to Makkah, or Hajj in Arabic, has cultural dimensions which are lost if the word "pilgrimage" is understood as mere actions of religious rituals and movement in places not connected to the place, the prophet and wisdom of the legitimacy of this obligatory practice of Islam. The pilgrimage to Makkah can be utilized in refining the spirit, strengthening the mind, forming the true vision of Islam, and contributing in the building of Islamic society. This is achieved when this vision is present in the pilgrims mind and when it is clear in the minds of the authorities organizing and supervising this sacred event.
