Abstract

In light of the selection of Al Ahsa as the capital of Arab tourism in 2019, the present research presents a case study to explore the reality of women’s handicrafts in this city and the challenges they face, so as to characterize them and propose appropriate solutions to address these challenges and make recommendations for the development of the domain of women’s crafts as one of the important pillars in the Saudi Vision 2030. The research followed a descriptive methodology in the presentation of research literature, which included the reality of Saudi women in the field of crafts, the most famous women’s handicrafts in Al Ahsa and its role in tourism development and features of women’s empowerment in the Saudi Vision 2030. The researchers used a survey model on the reality and challenges of women’s handicrafts in Al Ahsa as a major research tool judged by specialists to ensure their suitability for the application and its relevance to the research objectives. The most important result of the research show Al Ahsa craftswomen’s the need for material and moral support to ensure their continuity in the craft work, as well as the lack of targeted training programs to develop their marketing and technical skills in order to promote their touristic craft products. The research concludes with the need for strategies and flexible alternatives to help crafts women in Al Ahsa to innovate and develop their products. KEYWORDS women, heritage, development, marketing
