Ideological Trend in the Contemporary Arabic Criticism between Theory and Practice

Abstract

The majority of critics work the mid-20th Century focused on examining the controversial relationship between literature and society to highlight the close link between them. Therefore, this work aimed to monitor the points of convergence between art and society in the work of this era’s critics. It also aimed to indicate the necessities of linking the literature with values that formed the basis of most of their critical attitudes. For this purpose, the work examined the origin and formation factors of ideological trends that affected the critics’ ideological attitudes in that era. This was achieved by monitoring their criticism techniques of reviewing articles using theoretical and applied approaches. The work revealed that Hussein Morowah criticized the centrality of the progressive status within the revolutionary language of Adonis’s and Mahmoud Darwish’s manuscripts, and between alternates the revolutionary of the subject in the context of ancient literature, Al-Maʿarrī in particular. On examining, Mahmoud Amin EL-Alim, the work indicated that he was deeply affected by the Marxist realistic methodology in his criticism attitude, which focused on the values of the manuscripts. The work recommends that these criticism strategies should be applied according to the responsiveness of the manuscripts in order to achieve objective critique condition in dealing with creative texts taking in consideration not to take the method as an arbitrary measure applied at the text.
