Social Networking and the Familial Muteness in the Saudi Society. A Field Study in Alhasa Province (The Eastern Region)

Abstract

Social networking is an important social phenomenon in the society nowadays. This work significance lies in accounting for, and analyzing the relationship of social networking with familial muteness in Saudi society. The study problem lies social networking activation role of familial muteness in Saudi society. The study aims at determine social networking sociological dimensions in this context. The study starts from the question: what is the role of the social networking in spreading the familial muteness in the Saudi society? The study depended on functional structure theory. The study is a descriptive analytical study based on social surveying, observation tools, and refereed questionnaire that was tested for validity and stability then approved by King Faisal University commission for scientific research ethics. The location of the study is in Al Hofuf, Alhassa province (The Eastern Region). The study was conducted during 1438 on a selected sample of (100) persons. The results indicated that more than two thirds of the sample use social networking, mostly youth. This indicate the magnitude of social networking spreading among Saudi families and its impact on familial muteness. The study reported significant relation between age and social network usage as its usage is reduced at older ages. This could be due to life activities that prevents elders from browsing and using these networks. The study also showed significant differences among married individuals on acknowledging familial muteness based on their recognition of the phenomena spreading in their families.
