(Mohammed Khalef Thiyabat and Ahmed Amen Okour)Abstract
The importance of using different teaching strategies to explain the subject matter alone is not enough for
the novice learner to succeed in gaining different skills. This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of using
cooperative and problem solving strategies on gaining basic tennis skills among students at the faculty of physical
education in Yarmouk University. Thirty male students enrolled in the tennis class in the second semester of the
academic year 2015-2016 were selected for the study. The students were divided into two groups. The first group
was taught using cooperative teaching strategy while the other group was taught using problem solving strategy.
The researchers applied experimental methodology. The taught programs were applied on both groups for (8)
weeks using two sessions per week.
The study revealed significant differences between the two strategies on gaining various tennis skills. The
group taught by cooperative strategy showed the best results compared to the problem solving strategy group in
forehand and backhand strokes. There was no significant differences in serving skills for the two groups.
Finally, the work recommended using modern teaching strategies in teaching different games skills in addition
to conducting workshops on modern teaching strategies and promoting it effectively.
