The Effect of Using Proposed Scientific Enriching Activities on Creative Thinking for Elementary School Gifted Students

Modern education focuses on all aspects of gifted students' development. The main objective of this research is to investigate the effect of using proposed scientific enriching activities on creative thinking for elementary schools' sixth grade gifted students. Semi-experimental designs (pretest- posttest control group design), as well as qualitative research method were used, to investigate gifted students opinions about using proposed scientific enriching activities on creative thinking. Sample included (50) sixth grade students in elementary school enrolled in night care program in Riyadh center for gifted care. Tools include proposed enriching scientific activities designed according to scholastic program for gifted care certified by ministry of education in addition to interviews. This program requires the gifted teachers to apply enriching model for the scientific content educational units in science curriculum for elementary sixth grade with gifted students and using creative thinking tests in Aurora Battery. Research experiment continued for (8) weeks. The main findings show that there are significant statistical differences between means of experimental group marks and control group marks in favor of experimental group regarding dimensional total creative thinking test and its five sections (multiple uses test, book covers test, conversation between objects test, interesting language test, and number dialogue test), with large effect. Also students emphasis on the effectiveness of the proposed enriching activities on creative thinking , mental, and performance skills through direct practical application in addition to preferring science through their conductance of scientific experiments whether inside or outside the lab which play significant role on motivating learning science and being creative.
The work recommends that students' creative thinking skill should be developed by using scientific enriching activities after school.
