Poetry between Abo Bakr and Aisha
(Laila Mohammed Al Dekhail)Abstract
These two great Islamic figures were the closest, and well known for scholars and public, persons to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). They were particularly famous for their knowledge of religion, but that did not stop them from excelling in other fields. Thus, this work focused on unstudied area of their knowledge, poetry.
Aisha learned poetry from her father. Thus, it is expected to detect the similarity between their poetic culture and the way they utilized poetry. They quote poetry when facing different situations, even the toughest ones like sickness and death. Poetry does affect their attitudes and sometime drives them to take decisions.
They have always commented on the verses recited before. The Prophet (PBUH) used to ask them to recite poetry. Both of them commented on poetry due to their critical examining of its meanings and structure.
Abu Bakr differed from Aisha as there were reports that he had composed poetry such information is not conclusive.
What was special about Aisha is that she memorized an enormous amount of poetry. She mentioned some poets whom she memorized their full production alongside with several others whom she partially memorized their work.
