The Role of Community Colleges at Al-Jouf University in Meeting the Needs of the Labor Market: Reality and Aspirations

Connecting university educational outcome with labor market requirements is a major social need that should be fulfilled by different states. The study aims at identifying the reality of the community colleges at Al-Jouf University in addition to determining their roles in meeting the needs of the labor market. The work used a descriptive approach by applying the study tool of (a questionnaire survey) to all members of the study of faculty members, students, and a sample of the private sector personnel after testing for validity and stability. Out of (1053) distributed questionnaires, (618) were returned, (426) of them were valid for analysis.
The results of the study reveal that the reality of the community colleges indicates the completion of their organizational and human resources structures. The faculty members confirm that these colleges are provided with developed labs, diverse equipment, and modern techniques of communication in addition to having clear vision, mission, and objectives. They also emphasized the importance of providing these colleges with diverse and up-to date courses. Moreover, they highlight the importance of applying the standards of the Total Quality Management in addition to formulating integrated developmental plans. The students pointed out that the colleges avail labs helping them acquire scientific skills, and provide them with a variety of student activities and academic counselling. Regarding the sample of the private sector personnel perspective on the roles of these colleges in meeting the needs of the labor market, they highlighted the importance of following-up the level of their graduates and matching their current specialization with labor market requirements. In fact, they believe that these colleges did not meet the needs of the labor market of specialized jobs, and did not develop scientific disciplines in accordance with the renewable needs of the labor market. Finally, the study provided a set of recommendations to improve the reality of community colleges including the activation of their role in meeting the needs of the labor market and identify the market's requirements.
