Effect of Foreign Satllite Channels on King Faisal University Students: A Field Study on a Sample of the Faculty of Education Students

Abstract

Satellite channels are major tool for shaping youth behavior as it influence their attitudes. The study aimed to identify the effect of foreign satellite television channels on the students of King Faisal University. Analytical descriptive method was used to achieve this goal. A questionnaire was developed and distributed after testing for validity and accuracy to a sample of 800 male and female students from the Faculty of Education, King Faisal University. The results indicated that foreign satellite television channels had a significant negative impact on scientific achievement, traditions, custom, behaviors, in addition to reducing sleeping hours. The study also showed that there were statistically significant differences related to gender in favor of females regarding the considerable influence caused by foreign satellite channels. It also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to watching duration variable. The work recommends that Arabic TV programs with positive objectives should be prepared in addition to conducting periodical evaluation for forign programs to exclude its negative contents.
