Spatial analysis of Primary Health Care Centers in Western Riyadh and Model Selection of The most appropriate sites: Study using GIS

Abstract

The study of healthcare services’ distribution (primary healthcare centers’ distribution) in Riyadh is an important type of studies due to its association with population’s health. West of Riyadh. The purpose of this study is to use GIS to examine the current distribution of primary healthcare centers and analyze the properties of this distribution. Thus, it assessed the efficiency and adequacy of governmental primary healthcare centers. In addition, it aims to provide a model of the most appropriate locations of primary healthcare centers in the study area. The study reported several results. One of which, is the incompatibility of the current distribution of primary healthcare centers with the geographical variables’ distribution such as, city administrative units, population distribution and density, workforce size, and road network characteristics. It shows that the studied area needs 25 to 33 new healthcare centers. The study concluded several recommendations including the need to expedite the construction of a geographic database for health services, to establish more health centers in districts with high population density, to raise the efficiency of primary healthcare centers, which has high spatial relevance by incorporating their lacked services and increase their staff in all specialties.
