The Effect of a Multimedia Educational Software on the Academic Achievement of the Chapter of Web 2.0 to the Students of the College of Education at King Faisal University

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a multimedia educational software presenting the content of “Web 2”, a chapter of the "Instructional Technology" course, in the second semester of the academic year 2011/2012, preceded by an introductory educational software about multimedia concepts.
The sample of the study was divided into three groups. A control group studied the "Web 2" chapter traditionally, an experimental group studied the "Web 2" chapter through multimedia educational software, and an experimental group studied multimedia concepts of educational software before using multimedia educational software of the "Web 2" chapter.
The students' results of the first experimental group affirmed that the use of a multimedia educational software to teach the content of "Web 2" raised the level of the academic achievement of the students effectively. The students' results of the 2nd experimental group confirmed that the use of educational software about multimedia concepts before using the multimedia educational software for the content of the "Web 2" raised the level of the academic achievement of the students effectively larger than the 1st experimental group. However, the results did not show any significant statistical difference between the two groups in the speed of learning.
The study reached some recommendations. First, the production of electronic multimedia subjects should be considered, taking into account individual differences among students. It should facilitate the learning process and be suitable for use in the singular educational systems. Second, the importance of designing educational software displaying multimedia concepts, and using it before utilizing multimedia educational software to present the educational content. Third, the possibility of using the educational software produced by this study, both for the educational content and for the multimedia concepts. Fourth, the importance of following the scientific methods in designing educational software by following the models of instructional design and its procedures.
