Abstract

This paper attempts to examine the nature of ironic tropes in the complete poetic works of Ghazi Al-Qusaibi as well as outline all their possible patterns, functions, and formations. Special attention is given to such tropes as permeate his poems, whether partially or completely. The salient presence of such tropes in Al-Qusaibi s poetry entitles him to be a first-rate ironist. From such ironic tropes he managed not only to derive deep significations, but also to utilize them in grand structural and technical patterns, invest his poetic language with intensity and liveliness, as well as take language games to the farthest heights possible.
