Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of Schiff bases derived from 2- amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole are described. The structures of the titled Schiff bases were elucidated by elemental analysis, electronic absorption, infrared, 1H- and 13CNMR spectral measurements. The electronic absorption spectra of the Schiff bases were studied in organic solvents of different polarity. The dependence of λmax upon the type of the substituntes and their positions was investigated using UV-Vis spectra. The observed UV-Vis absorption bands were assigned to the corresponding electronic transitions. The important bands in the IR spectra as well as the main signals of the 1H- and 13CNMR spectra were assigned.
