Agricultural scientific research and priorities determination “techniques and methods”

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine those techniques and methods which could be used in determining agricultural research priorities. Also criterions which needed in these procedures were discussed.
Study showed that there are certain techniques and methods to achieve these objectives. The author of this study reviewed the related literature which could be used in determining research priorities, such as cost-benefits analysis, mathematical programming, rating and scoring systems, experimental approaches, commodity congruity index method and other methods which are more farmers-oriented such as farmers-research-systems (FRS) and farmers-first-system (FFS). Certain suggestions and recommendations were made in this regard, which could be beneficial to the people responsible for agricultural research planning, as following: 
First: Agricultural research priority must be determined based upon the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia agricultural development plans.
 Second: It is necessary to establish scientific committees for each agricultural commodity and subject. Long-term agricultural research strategies should be developed based on these Committees reports and studies.
