The “Event” and its Effect on Grammatical Structure in Modern Linguistic Theories

(Abdul-Ghani Sh. M. Al-Adabi and Saeed M. A. Al Musa)

Abstract

The “event” is considered one of the central issues in many modern linguistic studies, and the “action” is the ideal means of expressing this event. The purpose of this research is to look at the compositional effect of the event as a semantic element in modern linguistic theories. It aims to clarify the semantic and structural importance of the event in modern linguistics; to show the effect of the event in its actual tone, or in the form of the adjective at the structural level in modern linguistics; and to reveal the influence of the syntactic systems on each other through the similarities in the case of the event and its compositional effect. The research is limited to studying the issue within structuralism, generative, and transformational theory, as well as within the theory of functional grammar.
